Company
Intellikey Labs has been recognized by
the world’s top entertainment, media, manufacturing
and software companies as the market leader in quality
assurance testing for optical and digital media content
since 1997. Intellikey maintains an unequaled advantage
above its competitors as a result of well established
and rigorous proprietary testing methodologies, unique
development and updating of its hardware matrices through
extensive market research and constant enhancement
of testing methodologies.
A decade of accumulated testing data
enables Intellikey Labs to continually modify and augment
quality assurance operations in order to further lower
the risks associated with the release of media and
software production into the consumer market. No other
independent lab in the world has more variations available
for comprehensive testing.
History
A Brief History of the DVD
The DVD is duly recognized as the most
successful consumer electronics entertainment product
of all time. Its evolution from the audio CD and rise
to popularity in the late 1990’s created an entire
industry around it that, to this day, is unparalleled
in its earning power and consumer acceptance.
By 1996, a working group for Copy Protection
Technology announced agreements for non-profit licensing
of CSS (Content Scrambling System). This turning point
sparked manufacturers of playback hardware to begin
product release in Japan and the race was on to hit
the US domestic market with all speed in 1997.
During this period, the two groups that
existed to create standards and protect DVD industry
patents were immersed in complex negotiations. The
major shareholders in the evolution of DVD were Pioneer,
Sony, Toshiba, and Matsushita. Philips, Hitachi and
Thomson also participated but more on a second tier
level. Mitsubishi, JVC and Time Warner maintained a
proportionately much smaller market percentage of interest,
though all supported the inevitable future of DVD.
The DVD had been strategically accepted
by at least six major studios as the format of choice
for delivering their content. Warner Home Video released
four major titles to the Japan market in late 1996.
By January of 1997, New Line Home Video, Sony Music,
Warner Home Video, Columbia TriStar Home Video, MGM
Home Entertainment, Sony Music Entertainment/Sony Wonder
and PolyGram all had announced DVD titles for domestic
release.
In 1999, over 30 million DVD-ROM computers
existed in the US domestic marketplace and 10 million
players world-wide, six million of which were in US
households.
Part of the working group in optical
media, Time Warner did not foresee the need to quality
assure the emerging technology believing content and
playability of the discs to be stable and decided to
close their quality assurance department in 1996. Two
employees in the quality control department had a different
opinion and Intellikey Labs was born.

The Start of Quality Assurance for Optical
Media
In 1996 Lauren and Darrell Evers, both
worked in the Time Warner quality assurance program,
creating quality standards for computer and DVD applications.
The doubts Time Warner had about the future of its
testing business did not affect the knowledge base
and vision the Evers shared for what quality assurance
should be. As the door closed at Time Warner a new
one opened for Darrell and Lauren.
When Intellikey was formed in 1997 for
optical media content quality assurance testing, little
had been established in the way of standards and practices
for the testing industry. The company’s founders
set forth to develop operational procedures and testing
methodologies for the wave of quality assurance testing
they knew would come.
As the acceptance of optical media widened,
Intellikey became the standard for testing and reporting
that today is often imitated but never duplicated.
Before the consumer sees virtually any major television
or movie product, it will have gone through a testing
methodology that was innovated by Intellikey labs.
Content Quality Assurance Testing Today
Clients rely on the expertise Intellikey
has garnered since its inception in 1997 as a premier
optical media disc quality assurance testing facility
to help them release the best product possible. Beyond
traditional content testing, technology has dictated
that Intellikey offer expert testing capabilities for
an even wider variety of content delivery methods,
media and platforms than ever seemed imaginable in
1996.
Intellikey works with many new product
development initiatives testing against existing product
or product in development for usability and quality
performance. The next-gen product testing that passes
through Intellikey’s hands is a prime example
of the company’s fluid dexterity in the content
quality assurance testing marketplace. The efforts
have become renowned as Intellikey Signature TestingTM.
